Beginner Lessons
Our beginner lessons are thoughtfully designed as a two-part series. American Mah Jongg has a lot of moving pieces, so we break it down step-by-step in a way that feels approachable, clear, and fun. By the end of the 2-day lesson, you’ll have the skills and confidence to keep playing together as a group.
Foundations of
Mah Jongg
We build your understanding from the ground up so nothing feels mysterious or overwhelming. This lesson is about clarity, foundation, and building comfort with the game. You’ll learn how to:
Identify every tile — dots, bams, cracks, winds, dragons, and jokers
Understand and confidently use the official National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) Card
Set up the game properly
Understand the flow of play
Guided Play
Now we put it all into action.We’ll play together at the table with real-time coaching and guidance as you go — reinforcing strategy, answering questions, and helping everything start to click.This is hands-on learning. Not just listening — playing.
